Somali Development Group

MENTORING WITH SCHOOLS

The Somali Development Group will be working closely with different schools in Bristol (e.g., Cotham, Redland School, Fairfield, Bristol City Academy, Brurnel, BristolMet and more).

This program aims to:

  • Help young Somalis who are not reaching their full potential.
Schools will be referring students to us who have a low attendance, behavioural problems and are at risk of becoming drop outs.
  • To engage these youths in positive activities that the Somali Development Group organises throughout the whole year.

This project will be running for 6 – 10 weeks for each school and, within this time, we will:

  • Teach them about Somali culture.
  • Encourage them to speak in confidence and to seek support.
  • Teach them respect.
  • Assist them in choosing a direction for the future.

As many Somalis are struggling to think of what to do after their GCSEs, we aim help identify what they’re good at and give them insight into the various directions they are able to take to achieve their aspirations.
